Future Farmsteaders is our hands-on agricultural science program for children and teens who are curious about animals, plants, food, and the world around them.

On a working farmstead, Farmsteaders learn by doing—observing animals, exploring plants and soil, asking questions, solving problems, and practicing real farm skills. As they grow, so does their experience. Our age-specific programs are designed to build knowledge, confidence, practical skills, and independence at every stage.

What We Explore

Future Farmsteaders brings together agricultural science, STEM, nature studies, animal science, anatomy, and practical homestead skills in a hands-on learning environment.

Our sessions may include:

*Animal Science & Anatomy
Learning about animal anatomy, behavior, breeds, nutrition, health, reproduction, and responsible animal care.

*Plants, Soil & Gardening
Exploring seeds, plant growth, soil health, composting, pollination, gardening, and growing food.

* STEM on the Farm
Using science, technology, engineering, and math to investigate real-world questions, conduct experiments, make observations, measure, build, and solve problems.

* Agricultural Science
Discovering how livestock, poultry, crops, soil, water, and people work together to create the food and resources we depend on.

*Nature Studies & Ecology
Exploring the natural world around us through observation and discovery—from insects and wildlife to habitats, weather, ecosystems, and the Sonoran Desert environment.

*Food & Farm Systems
Learning where food comes from and exploring the journey from farm to table through eggs, livestock, gardens, food production, and preservation.

*Homestead and self sustainability Skills
Developing practical skills through gardening, animal care, farm chores, food skills, simple projects, and other hands-on experiences.

*Critical Thinking & Problem Solving
Farm life naturally creates questions. Farmsteaders are encouraged to investigate, make predictions, test ideas, find solutions, and understand the why behind what they are doing.

Learning That Grows With Them

Future Farmsteaders is an ongoing program, and children aren't expected to master everything at once. As Farmsteaders gain experience, they can take on greater responsibility, work more independently, build leadership skills, and explore increasingly complex concepts.

A younger Farmsteader might learn how to safely care for an animal. An older Farmsteader may begin exploring the animal's anatomy, nutritional needs, behavior, or role within the larger agricultural system.

At Leaning Post Acres, we believe children learn best when activities are designed for their age, interests, and stage of development. That’s why our Future Farmsteader programs are divided into age groups, allowing us to provide hands-on experiences, farm skills, and responsibilities that are appropriate for each stage. From our youngest explorers to our older Farmsteaders, there’s a place to learn, grow, and get involved on the farm.

Our Farmsteader Age Groups

Toddler Tuesdays: Ages 2–4
Little Future Farmsteaders: Ages 5–7
Junior Future Farmsteaders: Ages 8–12
Senior Future Farmsteaders: Ages 13–16
